Results Gameweek 1
Here are the scores on the doors so far!
Both myself and Pilko are on the board, each getting a point from correctly predicting a differential that scored 6 or more points in Vardy and Mounie. Gaz on the other hand, blanked, after his maverick Shaqiri punt backfired.
Hegazi was the surprise package for the top scoring player of the week award, which I’d bet no-one would have predicted, so no points there for any of us, as KDB blanked and Mané could only manage 6 points.
A new gameweek looms large and Gaz will be hungry to get himself on the score board after admitting himself that the pressure is on already, after a disappointing opening day performance.
- Top scoring player (TSP): Mané – 15pts
- Differential – Mahrez – 10pts
Justification for TSP: I had a feeling that Liverpool would struggle from a creative point of view without their talisman Coutinho in the side, but Watford were poor defensively and Liverpool still managed 3 goals with Salah, Mané and Firmino all getting on the scoresheet. With FdB’s Palace understandably struggling to quickly adapt to their new system and style of play off the back of conceding 3 goals to newly promoted Huddersfield, I can see Liverpool scoring 3 again here and I’m backing Mané to get 2 of them with maximum bonus.
Justification for differential: Leicester were impressive as an attacking unit against Arsenal, with Vardy reaping the rewards however, I can see Mahrez stealing the limelight this weekend against a Brighton side that offered very little on the road in the Championship last year. With Mahrez still looking to force a move away from the King Power, I think he’s going to put on a show for potential suitors this weekend and bag a goal, along with a clean sheet and 2 bonus points.
- Top scoring player: Kane – 13pts
- Differential: Mounie – 8pts
Justification for TSP: Kane loves to score in London derbies and Chelsea’s defensive frailties worsen after Cahill’s ban rules him out of the game, so I can see Spurs winning this comfortably. Chelsea look a wounded animal here and I think everyone, including Spurs this weekend can smell it. Kane and Spurs to take full advantage here in a 3-1 win where I expect Kane to get a brace and maximum bonus.
Justification for differential: First home game for Hudders, so I expect attacking football. Mounie looked exceptional against Palace, with two top finishes for his goals. I just can’t see Newcastle’s defence handling the big man from Benin and I can see Huddersfield bagging a few goals with Mounie getting 1 of them with a couple of bonus points.
- Top scoring player: Eriksen – 13pts
- Differential: Mata – 11pts
Justification for TSP: Spurs are up against a Chelsea team seemingly crumbling. Trouble off the pitch and without their captain in Cahill and no Fabregas, Ez will have more space on a massive Wembley pitch to strut his stuff. He’s started the season well with 12pts last week and I can only see that continuing here against a Chelsea side that are looking bereft of confidence. A goal, assist and maximum bonus for Eriksen.
Justification for differential: United looked back to their best against the Hammers and one player I felt went under the radar before being taken off, was Juan Mata. I see the silky Spanish playmaker keeping his starting place and registering double assists (hopefully for lukaku!). Played very well last week but Mkhi hogged the assists. He was getting into great positions and will always create chances for his team mates.
