Results for Gameweek 2
For the second week in a row, I nailed a differential performer, keeping myself firmly on the Leicester bandwagon in Riyad Mahrez, who duly delivered more than 6+ points to net me another point, pushing me to the top of the Team Connect Picks table.
He put in a top performance, bagging 2 assists and 2 bonus points as well as a clean sheet – the unfortunate part was that I was only 1pt off getting the predicted score right, as I predicted he would get 10pts and he bagged 11 – so close to a big 6 pointer!
Pilko went for a cheeky Juan Mata shout that ended up backfiring, as Mata was pulled off before United went on the rampage in the latter stages of the second half against Swansea – a little unfortunate.
It was a familiar story for Gaz, as his differential (Mounie) only managed 1pt after picking up a booking in the game against Newcastle.
None of us predicted the top scoring performer for that week in Alonso, who smashed in a brace at Wembley against Spurs, so that meant that only I (Simon) scored anything in that week.
At the start of GW3, that means I lead the way 2-1-0. All to play for!
Gameweek 3 Predictions
- Top scoring player (TSP): Alli – 16pts
- Differential: Antonio – 8pts
Justification for TSP: Despite his goal in the opening fixture, Alli hasn’t been great so far. He’s looked a bit sluggish and doesn’t seem to be influencing games as much as he normally does. It has only been 2 gameweeks though and the game against Burnley could be the perfect game for him to take off in. If they score a goal in the first half then I can see Spurs steam-rolling Burnley and winning 4-0 and I fully expect Alli to be involved in the goals this weekend.
Justification for differential: Antonio made his return last week and was straight back to being involved, bagging an assist for Chicharito. He’ll be closer to full match fitness this weekend and faces a Newcastle side that have underwhelming to say the least. I expect Antonio to bully the Magpies back line with his strength and pace and net himself a goal.
- Top scoring player (TSP): Kane – 13pts
- Differential: Richarlison – 9pts
Justification for TSP: Underlying stats of 14 goal attempts with 11 coming inside the box suggest that goals are on their way for last years golden boot winner. I just can’t see this little drought continuing any longer. Kane back to the goals with a brace and 3 bonus is my prediction.
Justification for differential: Again, the stats look convincing here, with him being involved in a lot of Watfords attacks. He had 6 shots last game, 2nd only to Kane with 8. With him putting in that kind of performance, I expect him to keep his place in the starting line-up and see him scoring again and bagging 2 bonus points along with it.
- Top scoring player (TSP): Benteke – 16pts
- Differential: Tommy Smith – 9pts
Justification for TSP: Really fancy palace to click in this game. Played well away at Liverpool last week and Swansea will fancy a result here, meaning more space on the counter for the Eagles. Benteke is a frustrating one to own, as he has a tendency to blow hot and cold, but I see this week as a hot one . I’m predicting 2 goals and an assist and obviously max bonus points for the other Belgian brute.
Justification for differential: Huddy have had a strong start and this week will be a real test for a backline that has kept back to back clean sheets. I see the Saints scoring here, but I have a strong feeling Tommy Smith will grab a couple of assists or even a goal and with that, getting himself amongst the bonus points.
