Liverpool currently sit top of the table with 21 points, 7 wins out of 7, and 18 goals scored (bested only by Man City). The blistering pace and clinicality of their front 3 are definitely partly accountable for this great run of form.
FPL Points so far:
- Salah (£12.5m) – 4 goals 3 assists – 53 points
- Mane (£11.6m) – 4 goals 1 assist – 45 points
- Firmino (£9.6m) – 3 goals 4 assists – 46 points
As impressive as they’ve been, the likes of Salah and Mané haven’t always looked at their best however.
Firmino, although inform, is mainly the provider, and can go on spells where you’ll see no return from him for 4-5 GWs. For his price range at the moment, a Son or De Bruyne will probably out perform.
This, combined with the strong performances of other premium assets such as Agüero, Aubameyang, Mahrez, KDB and even Kane, definitely leaves some question marks over the Reds’ heads – and more specifically their value.
Now, I understand the obvious reaction. NEVER, EVER sell Salah. “There’s a haul around every corner”. But, in all honesty Salah isn’t as reliable as two seasons ago.
Earlier this year, he went 7 games without scoring – as the highest priced player in the game, this just isn’t good enough.
It’s also worth mentioning, Salah and Mané are joint 9th on the top goalscorers list – behind Vardy, behind Wilson, behind the GOAT Teemu Pukki. Eve Barnes has scored as many goals as them for half the price.
This is all well and good, but most of you I’m imagining would need a stronger reason to consider shipping the Liverpool attacking assets out of your team. Well, look no further than their fixture list.
In the next 5, the Reds play three ‘Top 6’ teams, AND a Top 6 contender in Leicester City. In the same length of time, Man City have four fixtures given an FDR rating of 2.
“Liverpool are fixture-proof.” Well…. not exactly. They might come through all 5 matches without losing, and maybe even without dropping points. However, they don’t tend to beat ‘Top 6’ teams by much. And their strikers records aren’t overly impressive:
- Salah has scored 4 goals in 12 games against the Top 6.
- Mané has scored 3 goals in 12 games against the Top 6
- Firmino has scored 7 goals in 12 games – but includes a hat-trick against a terrible Arsenal defence last December
Even Leicester at home should raise some alarm. They drew 1-1 at home last season, which was (arguably) the game that lost them the title.
So, maybe consider dropping your Liverpool assets, at least until the end of November, where you can reinvest.
It’s a bold move, but a lot of FPL players have been frustrated this season over their lack of green arrows. This could potentially be a key strategy that boosts you up the rankings.
Best of luck as always for the Gameweek ahead.
