Hello, and welcome to the 6th edition of this season’s Predicting the Dream Team brought to you by me, FPL Texan. In this article, we preview FPL Gameweek 6 of the 2021/2022 season.
In this series, I go head-to-head each week with Fantasy Football Fix to see who can select the best team of the week, their algorithm or myself. It is a classic battle of man vs. machine!
Let’s see who won last week’s matchup…
|Manager||Gameweek Points||Overall Points||H2H Score|
|Fantasy Football Fix Algorithm||73||393||2|
As you can see, Fix one this one in another close battle.
The deciding pick was Dennis, who scored 6 FPL points this week.
Moving onto Gameweek 6, lets take a look at Fix’s Team.
Fix’s Predicted Team of the Week
Please note that this team is accurate as of Thursday 23rd September. However, the algorithm team updates right up until deadline with news from press conferences and potential injuries.
Therefore, to stay completely up to date with the algorithm team, you can check it yourself just before the deadline at FantasyFootballFix.com.
Next, we will look at my predicted team of the week, and reasonings behind each decision.
Texan’s Predicted Team of the Week
Important note before we begin – this is not my actual team for Gameweek 4, but instead my predicted team of the week (almost as though I had a free hit to choose as I wish).
- Price: £4.6m
- Ownership: 25.7%
- Projected Points: 3.9 Points
Sanchez is back in the team of the week again with a home fixture against Palace. Palace have the third lowest xG in the league this season, with only Norwich and Spurs lower, so this bodes well for a Brighton defence that is middle of the road in xGA at 11th. Brighton also play at home which is a boost for the defence’s chances at a clean sheet this week.
Sanchez is not known for his save point appeal, with just 9 saves this season, so its a clean sheet or bust for Sanchez.
- Price: £5.4m
- Ownership: 10.7%
- Projected Points: 5.2 Points
Digne makes a debut on the article this week, with a matchup against Norwich. Norwich have been poor defensively, ranking second worst in xG so far this season, so a clean sheet is possible at home this week for Everton who rank 10th in xGA.
Digne provides a nice attacking return potential as well, who ranks second amongst defenders on the team in xFPL points per 90 at 4.22 points. He also ranks first in crosses per 90 at 6.40 showing he is frequently playing balls into dangerous areas in the box and attacking returns could come soon.
Digne has been a bit of a troll this season, but I think he could finally return for owners this week against Norwich.
- Price: £7.6m
- Ownership: 34.1%
- Projected Points: 4.0 Points
Trent is back in the team of the week with a matchup against Brentford. Brentford have been middle of the road for xG ranking 9th, whilst Liverpool have been very strong defensively ranking 4th best for xGA. Trent has been in superb form to start the season, ranking 2nd in xA per 90 amongst defenders at 0.51, and is second in crosses per 90 amongst defenders at 10.25.
Trent is in superb form, so with a decent matchup against Brentford he is a must in the team of the week.
- Price: £5.5m
- Ownership: 41.3%
- Projected Points: 4.2 Points
Shaw rounds out the defence this week. He and United face a Villa side who rank 12th in xG, and whilst United have kept just one clean sheet so far this season they have still been a strong defence, sitting 7th best for xGA. Shaw also offers great attacking return potential, ranking third on the United side for xA per 90 at 0.23. He also ranks third amongst defenders in the league for crosses per 90 at 8.40.
Shaw has been a bit of a disappointment for managers this season, but I think he could come good this week at home to Villa.
- Price: £6.5m
- Ownership: 15.9%
- Projected Points: 0.0 Points
Raphinha starts the midfield section this week. Leeds rank 7th in xG to start the season, and Raphinha has been a major part in that. He ranks second in xG per 90 at 0.27, and third in xA per 90 at 0.14. He also leads the team in crosses per 90 at 6.53. At the time of writing this, the extent of Raphinha’s injury is unknown. If he were not to play, Rudiger would come off the bench to replace him.
Raphinha looked good last week and scored a goal, and I think we could see a similar output from him this week against West Ham.
- Price: £12.6m
- Ownership: 57.3%
- Projected Points: 5.8 Points
Salah is in the team of the week again this week. Salah and Liverpool go up against a surprisingly strong Brentford side, who rank 2nd best for xGA although this may be slightly skewed due to their opponents to start the season.
Liverpool have been in phenomenal form to start the season ranking first in xG at 14.5. No surprise that Salah has been one of the main reasons for their offensive success, ranking second on the team for xG per 90 at 0.64, and third for xA per 90 at 0.32.
When Salah is in this kind of form, he’s a no brainer in the predicted team of the week.
- Price: £6.5m
- Ownership: 32.6%
- Projected Points: 3.6 Points
Benrahma is back in the team of the week this week. He and West Ham face a Leeds defence that ranks third worst in xGA to start the season, and with Ayling a major doubt for this weekend it could be a nice game for West Ham assets.
Benrahma has been off to a superb start to the season, ranking third on the team in xG per 90 at 0.27, and second in xA per 90 at 0.29. With Antonio back from suspension, I expect that to also boost Benrahma and the other Hammers attacking potential too.
Benrahma has been in great form to start the season, so against Leeds he makes the team of the week.
- Price: £6.1m
- Ownership: 9.0%
- Projected Points: 5.1 Points
Sarr rounds out the midfield this week. Watford go up against a Newcastle defence that ranks worst in xGA this season, at 11.3. This bodes well for Sarr and Watford, as they look to build off their 3-1 win last week against Norwich. Sarr has been one of the key men for Watford’s attack this season, ranking first in xG per 90 at 0.38, and fourth in xA per 90 at 0.10.
Sarr scored a brace last week, and whilst I don’t think he will repeat that this week, I do think he could get on the scoresheet in some fashion.
- Price: £7.5m
- Ownership: 4.9%
- Projected Points: 3.2 Points
Jimenez makes the team of the week this week. Wolves face a Southampton side that rank 8th worst in xGA at 7.0 to start the season. Wolves have been a relatively strong attacking team so far, ranking 8th best in xG at 7.0. Jimenez has looked good so far to start the season, ranking fourth in xG per 90 and first in xA per 90 on the side.
Jimenez is yet to get a return this season, but I think that could change this week against Southampton.
CRISTIANO RONALDO (C)
- Price: £12.7m
- Ownership: 47.1%
- Projected Points: 7.5 Points
Ronaldo is my captaincy selection this week. He and United go up against a Villa defence that has been quite strong defensively, ranking third best in the league for xGA. United have been very strong on attack on the other hand too, with the 5th best xG in the league.
Since Ronaldo’s return to the Premier League he has taken the league by storm, scoring 3 in his first 2. Over that time he leads the league in xG per 90 at 1.67 and xFPL points per 90 at 10.21.
In his first game back at Old Trafford, Ronaldo scored a brace. I would not be surprised if he did the same this gameweek against Villa at home.
- Price: £7.9m
- Ownership: 34.3%
- Projected Points: 5.7 Points
Antonio rounds out the side this week. As mentioned earlier, he faces a Leeds defence that has been very poor this season. Antonio has been in phenomenal form this season, ranking third in xG per 90 in the league at 0.84. He is also 7th in the league in xA per 90 at 0.36. Due to his suspension last week, he has gotten a nice rest and should be fit and ready to go against a injured Leeds back line.
Antonio missed last week due to suspension, but I expect him to pick up where he left off and get on the scoresheet this gameweek against Leeds.
